"This form is really in the wrong place. It should be under the heading of employment law rather than family law. But. . . Affirmative action is slightly controversial. This is a government policy aimed at correcting the historical imbalance between the advantaged and the previously disadvantaged. Although discrimination provisions work well with new hirings, this aims to change the recruitment policy from simple merit to a positive preference to a previously disadvantaged group, e.g. to recruit more women into certain types of employment. To make the policy work, details of all job applicants must be collected. If you apply for a job with a government contractor, you will receive a form like this. There is no need to be offended. It is government policy to collect the information and to monitor recruitment policies."
